How To Pronounce French Rose Names ...as noted by the American Rose Society! Order Your Copy Here
"Ghislaine de Féligonde, Jeanne LaJoie, Boule de Neige, Sombreuil. ...Well, I have spent many an hour at Regan's Nursery. They have a fabulous selection of fine roses, statuary, and "other" plants. They are experts with rose gardening so if this is unfamiliar terrain for you, then you will learn rose gardening, or for smaller gardens, container rose gardening. Now that I've returned to my home in San Diego, I kinda miss browsing their wide selection and lovely rose gardening display's. I feel fortunate to live in California where we are not troubled by most fungal and "buggy" pests. You will find your local rose society to be a great resource for your area. You will want to take a soil sample and send to your local agricultural office for analysis. This provides the starting point for your rose garden. It all begins with a strong root system for the plant to flourish. You can then ammend the soil as needed. Generally, though, a good compost, plenty of sunshine and water are a formula for success. Personally, I practice organic rose gardening and am ok with a few "bugs" in my garden. I notice the birds come to visit and gleen my rose garden while I get to enjoy the birds' presence. If you still feel a little anxious, then go get a big big pot... 24 inches in diameter or more. Fill it with good potting soil and add some Whitney Farms rose food to the mix. Plant Sharifa Asma, Marie Pavie, and Reine des Violettes... These three roses stay a little smaller and grow well in a pot. Keep in mind, the bigger the pot the better. Roses like a good deep root system. Water well and enjoy! 128 pages, 6" X 9", ISBN 1-932253-05, $14.95 trade paperback, Luminosa Publishing, La Jolla, CA |
